Week_2 assignments

This week need to do two main assignments:

1- To explore as musch CAD software programs as possible and tinker with them.

2- To Model (raster, vector, 2D, 3D, render, animate, simulate, ...) a possible final project.

3- Compress images and videos of the designing process.

4- Post a description with design files on your class page.

So let's beginnnnnnn ^^.

Raster Based Programs:

I started exploring one of the raster based software programs which is Gimp as it is free to download and an open source program.

I followed this toturial to learn Gimp's basics and tools.

I tried to play with the tools a little to make a cool graphity like image/logo (I am not an artist but I am trying to be ^^).

I used free selection tool, brushes, transform, scale and more to make this image out of my selfy to make a logo.

I tried also to make a thumbnail for this week using a mockup you can download it from here.

Here I played more with layers and text and 3D transformation tool

Vector Based Programs:

I love using inkscape as it has a quite welcoming interface and not like other programs.

In inkscape I made a sort of cartoonish logo out of myself using the pen tool and the colour bucket also I made a simple phone holder which had an anime character I love "Killua Zoldyck" from the legendary anime series "Hunter X Hunter". I used trace bitmap tool, alignment and distribution, linked offset and path combineing using boolean operations like uinion and difference.

3D Modeling:

As for 3D design programs I used 3 programs: Blender, FreeCAD and Autodesk Fusion 360.

Blender

As for what I did in Blender I followed the famous tutorial of the one and only Blender Guru "Blender 4.0 Beginner Donut Tutorial (NEW)".. I designed the donut using a torus object and edited the mesh in Edit mode then opened the sculting mode where I added some details and finally rendered the donut in blender.

I didn't fully mastered the rendering espicialy the lighting settings. Here is my Donut ^^.

I really enjoyed using blender and following this tutorial. I will be using Blender in 3D printing week.

FreeCAD

To be honest I didn't like using FreeCAD its user interface is sooooooo pooor and not inviting but I wanted to try it. I followed a Tutorial to learn the interface and tools and I found that it was the same as a Program I used before called Ondsel. I designed a simple Vase using the revolve method and thickness modifier. and I designed a 3D part using loft and fillets.

The work flow in FreeCAD has to be organized as one starts by designing a part "Part designing" workspace, create a body, creat a sketch using sketcher workspace, leave the sketch and using th pad, revolve and etc tools to convert the 2D sketch into a 3d body.

This is my Vase:

Using loft and fillets:

Autodesk Fusion 360

In Fusion I have done two project one main project and the other was an experimental project using Form design in fusion. I will start by showing first Ms. Spoon which is the experimental project and I think it was great quickly and then divide in details of the main fusion design Chadder "Chair + Ladder".

Ms. Spoon

I used fusion form design workspace which is sort of like the edit mode "Mesh Editing" in blender where you can expand, extrude and shrink faces/edges and so. I followed the tutorial of Kendey "Online product design youtube channels". to explore more about form design. and I made this ^^.

I used emboss to write text on the surface of Ms. Spooon.

Then rendered the spoon in Fusion rendering workspace.

Chadder "The chair which is a ladder and the ladder which is a chair"

In this project I wanted to replicate a product with real life measurement and add some parameters to the design to facilitate the editing process. I wanted this project to be manufactured/fabricated latter on so I added User Defined Parameters in Fusion and these parameters are: Wood thinkness, tab length and offset. And then started my designing process.
